The EECMY 11th Council officially Ended

The 11th Council meeting of the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus commenced with prayer on July 15 was concluded on July 21 with elections for two major positions.

The Council elected Rev. Teshome Amenu as a new Associate General Secretary to replace the outgoing Associate General Secretary, Mr. Paulos Shune. Mr. Paulos had served faithfully for two terms in the church.

Nejo congregation inaugurated G+3 Building

On July 5, 2015 Nejo congregation had a rededication program for the church building they enlarged and renewed.

The celebration happened where there were more than four thousand people. Nejo congregation has about 4458 communicant members.

On the same day, the congregation also inaugurated a G+3 commercial building.  Without including the man power and materials contributed by the church members, the building costed about 7.1 million birr which all was financed by Nejo congregation.

Confirmation to Confer Honorary Degree on Herman Kruze

Mr. Herman Kruze received an honorary doctorate degree from Wollega University following the application of the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus, Development and Social Services of Birbir Dilla Synod.  The Synods attached several pages describing the community development achievements of Mr. Kruze in Western part of Ethiopia for more than 40 years. The Wollega University’s management made its own through investigation of the works of Mr. Herman Kruze and found out that his contribution to the local development of the people of Ethiopia is tremendous and is in line with the development strategy of the Ethiopian government.

Therefore, as the recognition of the work he did in the Western parts of Ethiopia, the management of Wollega University conferred the honorary doctorate degree on him on the graduation ceremony that was held on June 27, 2015 at Wollega University main campus in Nekemte. Rev. Dr. Wakseyoum Idosa (EECMY President) and Mr. Girma Borishie (DASSC Commissioner) attended the ceremony representing the church.

Mr. Herman Kruze first came to Ethiopia in 1972 and worked as a missionary at Chaliya. He served the church and the community for the past 40 years faithfully. He lived the life of the people of that area and shared his knowledge, love and commitment to this people and become a good example to other missionaries.

Gofer Meda Congregation Inaugurated

On August 9, 2015 Gofer Meda Congregation inaugurated a church building with a great celebration. The Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus President, Rev. Dr. Wakseyoum Idossa with other pastors blessed and dedicated the new church building.

The foundation stone of the church was laid on September 12, 2011 with initial capital of 40,000 Birr. At the side of mission work and evangelism of the congregation, the construction started at the end of 2011.

Currently the congregation has 1065 communicant members and 2012 total members. Due to this reason, it was necessary to build a spacious worship place to accommodate the increasing number of members.


It took about four years to finalize the construction of the church and other offices that are found under the worship place.
