Mr. Herman Kruze received an honorary doctorate degree from Wollega University following the application of the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus, Development and Social Services of Birbir Dilla Synod.  The Synods attached several pages describing the community development achievements of Mr. Kruze in Western part of Ethiopia for more than 40 years. The Wollega University’s management made its own through investigation of the works of Mr. Herman Kruze and found out that his contribution to the local development of the people of Ethiopia is tremendous and is in line with the development strategy of the Ethiopian government.

Therefore, as the recognition of the work he did in the Western parts of Ethiopia, the management of Wollega University conferred the honorary doctorate degree on him on the graduation ceremony that was held on June 27, 2015 at Wollega University main campus in Nekemte. Rev. Dr. Wakseyoum Idosa (EECMY President) and Mr. Girma Borishie (DASSC Commissioner) attended the ceremony representing the church.

Mr. Herman Kruze first came to Ethiopia in 1972 and worked as a missionary at Chaliya. He served the church and the community for the past 40 years faithfully. He lived the life of the people of that area and shared his knowledge, love and commitment to this people and become a good example to other missionaries.


Mr. Kruze showed the wholistic service of the church to the community of Western Wollega by constructing roads and houses that are environmentally friendly with the people, showed caring for the environment, building clinics, and running the Chaliya Technical School. He specially taught wood work for many youngsters and helped them to achieve great success in their professional lives. 

The church leaders together with the Birbir Dilla Synod leaders said thank you to Mr. Kruze after the ceremony of Wollega University.

The church also thank God about Mr. Herman Kruze and and his sending mission (ELM formerly known as Hermansbour mission).
