EECMY Gimbi Jorgo Synod was established as a result of the re-structuring of the former Western Synod into 4 church units. It was outset on April 2, 2001 with its founding General Convention held in Ghimbi.

The Synod’s Central office is situated at Ghimbi, the capital town of the Western Wollega Administrative Zone which is 441 km from Addis Ababa to the West.

The catchment areas of the Synod are Oromia (some parts of Western Wollega and Illubabor) and Benishangul-Gumuz (Kamashi Zone) regional states. 

According to the 2014 membership statistics report, the Synod has 165,424 communicant members and 295,049 total members, 27 parishes and 333 Congregations, 41 preaching places, 94 pastors, 78 evangelists, 43 administrative and 54 development and social services commission staffs.
